Why it's flagged
Carrageenan is a seaweed-derived thickener. Food-grade carrageenan is GRAS, but degraded carrageenan (poligeenan) is an established inflammatory agent. Debate exists on whether degradation occurs in stomach acid. Common in wet foods (20% of products). Some brands avoid it as a precaution.
