Privacy Policy

GoodNom is a small, independent app. We collect only what we need to make the app work, and we don't sell or share your data. Here's the plain-English version of what we do.
What stays on your device
Everything you enter in the app lives on your device and goes nowhere else. That includes your pet's name, breed, age, weight, health conditions, allergens, photos, weight history, food transitions, and pantry inventory. None of it is uploaded, synced to a cloud, or accessible to us.
When you scan a product
When you photograph a pet food label, we send the images, the product's barcode, and your pet's species to our servers. We pass those to a third-party AI provider to read the label text. Once we have the result, the photos are permanently deleted. The extracted nutrition data is used to generate your score.
Analytics in the app
We use PostHog to understand how people use GoodNom. This helps us figure out what's working and what's confusing. We track general usage patterns, like what you tapped, where you got stuck, and which features you used. We also record your device type, OS version, and app version. This data is tied to a random device ID, not your name, email, or pet data.
Analytics on this website
On goodnom.app, PostHog collects basic page view data: which pages you visited and how you got here. That's it.
Referral program
If you use the referral feature, a random device ID is sent to our servers to generate and track your referral code. This ID is not linked to your name or any personal information.
Preventing abuse
When you make a request to our servers, your IP address is hashed (converted to an unreadable string) and used only to enforce rate limits. It's never stored in readable form and is discarded within 24 hours.
In-app purchases
Premium features are purchased through Apple's App Store. We never see your payment information. Apple handles billing entirely.
What we don't collect
- Your name, email address, or phone number
- Your location
- Health, contact, or calendar data
- Crash reports or diagnostic logs
Third-party services
We use PostHog for analytics. You can read their privacy policy at posthog.com/privacy. Photos you scan are sent to an AI service for label reading, then permanently deleted. We don't share your data with anyone else.
Data retention
Scan photos are permanently deleted after processing. Rate limit data is discarded after 24 hours. All server-side data is tied to random anonymous IDs, not to you personally. There's no way to identify you from it.
