Ingredient Splitting

info

Ingredient Splitting is an ingredient found in a small number of pet foods. Based on veterinary research, this ingredient has generally considered low-risk but good to know about. Below, we explain what we found and list the products that include it.

Why it's flagged

Some foods list multiple forms of the same ingredient (like pea protein, pea fiber, and pea starch instead of just peas). Listing them separately makes each one weigh less, which can push animal protein higher on the label than it would be if the variants were combined. We flag this when two or more forms of the same ingredient appear in the top 10.
