Onion is an ingredient found in a small number of pet foods. Based on veterinary research, this ingredient has worth keeping an eye on. Below, we explain what we found and list the products that include it.

Why it's flagged

A member of the allium family. Contains thiosulfate compounds that cause oxidative damage to red blood cells (Heinz body anemia). Powdered forms are more concentrated than fresh. Damage is cumulative across repeated exposure.
